PLLA Fillers – Collagen-stimulating injection treatments with long-lasting effect
Poly‑L‑Lactic Acid (PLLA) is a synthetic, biodegradable polymer used in aesthetic medicine as a collagen stimulator rather than a direct filler product. Instead of immediately adding a lot of volume, PLLA stimulates the body's own fibroblasts to produce new collagen, which gradually restores volume, improves skin firmness and quality.
Advantages of PLLA products
Gradual development of results - from a few weeks to months after treatment
Long-lasting result – often up to 1.5-2 years depending on treatment, area and the patient's own tissue capacity
Förbättrar the quality of the skin: elasticity, thickness, smooth surface and reduced laxity
Less risk of "overdriven volume" immediately after injection, which makes the results more natural
Biocompatible and degradable – the body breaks down the material over time
Areas of use
PLLA is suitable for:
Loss of volume in the face, e.g. cheekbones, temples, chin
Creases and wrinkles – especially deep lines and expression wrinkles
Face oval (so-called “jawline”), contouring and tightening
Skin laxity around the neck, décolletage and hands
In some cases also for body treatments (skin laxity, volume loss, improved skin quality)
Treatment & course
The treatment is done with injections, often with several injections or sessions depending on the area and the desired result
Usually requires several treatment sessions at intervals – e.g. 2-3 sessions at intervals of a few weeks
The result is not irreversible: initial volume or fullness can be seen, but the main effect comes when collagen production has started
Maintenance treatments are recommended when the effect wears off after the primary period
Safety & side effects
Vanliga, milda och övergände biverkningar: redness, swelling, bruising, soreness after injection
Possible lumps (nodules) or irregularities if the injection technique is not correct or if the massage afterwards is underestimated
It is important that therapists are trained and follow specific protocols regarding dilution, injection depth and aftercare
Patient selection – certain skin conditions or medical conditions can affect whether PLLA is suitable
Difference to traditional fillers
Hyaluronic acid fillers add volume immediately; PLLA builds volume over time through the body's own collagen
Hyaluronic acid often needs maintenance more often, while PLLA usually provides longer duration after a full course
PLLA often provides more structural support over the skin rather than "plumping"
PLLA products are an excellent alternative for those looking for long-term skin improvement and structure, with natural results rather than quick volume increase.
